Eardrum perforation or trauma is a common condition that often leads to hearing loss or repetitive middle ear infections. Luckily, this condition can be treated easily with minor surgery. A mildly invasive and quick healing surgery is all you need to repair a perforated eardrum.
By repairing the damaged tissue in the eardrum, we can prevent further damage to your hearing. Moreover, you will get relief from middle ear infections, aches, and pains.
MN Ear & Sinus is well-equipped with modern equipment and experienced specialists. We perform inhouse eardrum repairs every day.
Eardrum perforations are quite common among adults as well as children. Mild eardrum perforations and infections can heal on their own. However, some perforations get worse and lead to bigger problems.
Here are some reasons why you would require an eardrum repair:
Generally, eardrum surgery procedures vary among patients. However, most of our patients end up having one of three procedures: ossiculoplasty, tympanoplasty, or a myringoplasty. We perform these procedures at our facility as required.
For minor eardrum perforations, we normally do a myringoplasty, which involves using a special gel or other materials to patch the hole. Ossiculoplasty and tympanoplasties are recommended for more serious cases that require elaborate preparations and surgical procedures.
Eardrum repair basically involves one or two mild surgical procedures. In some cases, an incision will be made behind your ear. Other times, the ear canal is used to access the middle ear.
The entire procedure might take 15 minutes to a few hours to complete. Depending on the procedure, local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be required. However, this is mostly a mild surgical procedure. Therefore, it doesn’t cause much downtime for the patient.
After the repair, your ear is sealed to keep it dry while it heals. We will give you the appropriate post-care medicine and monitor your healing progress.
